A few weeks ago there was a free sour cherry giving before the parliament. The farmers were demonstrating since they were forced to sell the fruits at a really low price. So they thought, if they have deficit already, why not give them for free? So on the 3th this month they just put a box full, and anyone could take it. That time I didn't have any time to go out even for a minutes. I was a litle sad about it. My mom likes cherry-soup really much, and I would have made some of that... but oh well.
Then yesterday a co-worker came, and told us there will be FREE WATERMELONS this time, and the truck comes just before the building we were working at!!! She told us just as the truck arrived, and my boss turns to me, and says: "Let's go and get the melons!"
I was like O_o... and then he goes on, already in the doorway: "the users can wait so long..., now come on!" What could I do? That was command of my boss. XD So down we went, and got to the truck. I just arrived, and already my boss was holding a big watermelon out to me. X3 By my guess it was about 10kg... I was forced to call my brother to come and get the melon, since I couldn't take it home alone, and withouth a bag. I made a pics of it too, afternoon I'll try to put it up. ^^
Anyway we were lucky to be the first to arrive. I heard, in the afternoon people just got pieces, not a whole.

But even though I'm happy about a free watermelon it IS sad that the farmers are forced to demonstrate this way. But while I can sympathize with them, I don't think that this will change anything. The price will still be defined by the engrosser, and the farmers can only choose if they sell it at that price, or don't sell at all.
Can be that the rain was the cause, but with my boss we were in a nostalgic about older times... where there were notes in the post that "there and there, at this and this time there will be fruit-selling from offset at this price". Everyone went there and bought the cherry, the melons, apples, etc. at that price and they were happy that they could by-pass the engrossers. At my place - and it IS a town with 40000 residents) there are still a few, who sell the potato from the truck, and they rang at every door if you would like some.
There is only good in that:
- the ware comes right from the farmer
- it's not 'treated' in any way
- it comes to the house door so you don't have a hard time to take it home
- since you by-pass the engrosser it's at a good price.
This way the farmers sell it at a price that they like, and even the custumer is happy.
